Sweet!
"We've got it in the bag. We're just putting a timeline together of when and where. So that's all coming together now," Troy Sanders to Metal Hammer, "So 2017's going to be an incredibly busy and fruitful year in the world of Mastodon."
It seems like just last month we were reporting about the new album (which hadn't started production). Mastodon hasn't released a new album since Once More 'Round the Sun, which was released in the summer of 2014. That album peaked at number one on the Billboard Hard Rock charts and at number six on the Billboard 200.
"I'm fortunate to be able to say that," Sanders continued, "I'm very excited for what the new year will bring."
While the seventh studio album is said to be a continuation from Once More 'Round the Sun, there will be some noticeable differences between their last effort and their new effort. For one, Mastodon brought back uber-producer Brendan O'Brien. O'Brien replaces Nick Raskulinecz, who produced Once More 'Round the Sun. Mastodon had previously worked with Brendan O'Brien on their 2009 release Crack the Skye.
Also, the style of the new Mastodon album may be a little different according to drummer Brann Dailor. Dailor told the Metal Hammer podcast “I’d like to get a little more proggy, and have a little more space and play around with dynamics a little bit more – just dive a little deeper with some of the riffs and some of the parts. Just get more explorative and push in that direction and say where normally there’s a stopping point, try to push beyond it. We’ll see what that yields.”
We can't wait.
