The six minute opus isn't a thrash song and doesn't have a fast drum beat. Quite the opposite. Dream No More features a slow, start-stop verse with the tempo picking up barely during the other parts of the song. A song which also features a rad solo by lead guitarist Kirk Hammett.
The vocals on the slow, bluesy Dream No More verse aren't comparable to anything Metallica has recorded before. The vocals on the Dream No More verse sound more like an Ozzy Osbourne inspiration than what we've become accustomed to in past Metallica songs.
Then it hits you.
Metallica drop a hammer on the hard hitting chorus where James Hetfield yells "You turn to stone/Can't look away/You turn to stone/Madness,they say" above a slower tempo'd metal riff. The variety coming out of this new batch of songs is like nothing we've seen on previous Metallica albums. Definitely looking forward to the rest of the videos from this album.
