Ezekiel Elliot Sets Dallas Cowboys Rookie Rushing Record In Nine Games

Ezekiel Elliot/ESPN

Ezekiel Elliot
, the sensational Cowboys rookie running back, set the franchise rookie rushing record on Sunday. Ezekiel Elliot joins Eric Dickerson and Adrian Peterson as the three rookies to reach 1000 yards rushing in nine games.

Maybe he was worth the fantasy top ten pick afterall.

"It means a lot, you know, just working with the pedigree of this position playing for the Dallas Cowboys. It means a lot to me to go out there and break a record," said Ezekiel Elliot, "It's one step more to where we want to be. One step more to greatness."

Ezekiel Elliot is following the trail of Cowboy greats like Tony Dorsett, Hershel Walker, Emmitt Smith, and (more recently) Demarco Murray. Demarco Murray is the only Cowboy back to rush for 1000 yards faster, when he ran for over a 1000 yards in eight games back in 2014. During his record 2014 campaign, Demarco Murray broke the Jim Brown streak of 100 yard rushing games (6) when he started the season with eight 100 yard games and also broke the Cowboy franchise rushing record held by Emmitt Smith (1773 yards) with 1845 yards.

A record that may also be in jeopardy.

Ezekiel Elliot currently leads the NFL with 1102 yards rushing on 223 attempts, averaging 4.9 yards per attempt and 12 rushing touchdowns. Only Jay Ajai, Jordan Howard, and Lesean McCoy are averaging more yards per carry (5.2), though each has close to 90 less carries than Elliot while the twelve Ezekiel Elliot touchdowns are good for third behind LeGarrette Blount and David Johnson. With six games left and the best offensive line in football, Ezekiel Elliot may end up leading all the major running back categories when the year is over.

"Honestly, I'm just glad we went out there and got the win today," Ezekiel Elliot continued, "I'm happy we made a couple steps forward as a team."

With their latest win over the Ravens, the Dallas Cowboys have won a franchise record nine games in a row.
